Puppy Mills
are an ever-growing source of pet stores in
Canada. A “mill” is defined as being
a “process, agency, or institution that
operates in a routine way or turns out products
in the manner of a factory”. That is sadly
the case, for these poor animals that are routinely
bred, neglected and cramped together in over-populated
cages, in most cases for the soul purpose of
making money. There are also breeding mills
in America, one being situated in Lancaster
County, Pennsylvania.
Video footage taken in a Canadian
Puppy Mill shows the conditions the dogs
are forced to live in. Their tails are covered
and matted in feces. Dogs chained to their kennels;
obviously malnourished and very poorly looked
after. Dirty water and food sits amongst fecal
matter and other filth. Because of the massive
amount of puppies situated in these mills, animals
are often sick and lacking proper nutrition,
care and attention. It is also common for them
to have behavioural problems, parasites, infections
and just general bad health.
You wouldn’t let your pet
endure this, would you? No, you wouldn’t.
Why? Because It’s wrong, It’s unnecessary,
and It’s ignorant.
Consider all aspects of buying
a puppy.
You should consider all the pro’s
and cons before buying a puppy, and to see if
you can properly look after, care and nourish
the animal once you get one. Remember that these
animals are probably already sick when you buy
them in a pet store. By buying one, you are
encouraging this vicious cycle to continue and
the demand will be much higher for mill-bred
pups.
If you know of a pet store that
is supplied by a puppy mill, then please, don’t
buy the animal. Do some research, ask the pet
store owner about the origin of the dogs they’re
selling. You could instead adopt a pet from
an animal refuge. Perhaps create or sign a petition
against puppy mills. Maybe you could even write
a letter to Canada’s government, urging
them to shut down these mills. With any luck,
these companies will go broke and shut down
for good! Here is a petition to stop the Quebec
Puppy Mill from continuously breeding dogs;
Petition
please sign it!
